Oxidation resistant membranes, such as Halar microfiltration or ultrafiltration membranes particularly with biological or organic fouling are cleaned with hydroxyl radicals, generated from an acidic aqueous solution of molybdenum, chromium, cobalt, copper, tungsten or more particularly iron, with hydrogen peroxide.
